What is IB DP?
IB DP, International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, is an academically challenging and balanced educational programme with final examinations that prepare students aged 16 to 19 for success at university and in their lives beyond. The programme is implemented in the 11th and 12th grades and lasts two years.
The purpose of this programme is to help students prepare for university education. IB DP has nearly 2 million students who have successfully graduated from this programme, are entitled to receive the internationally recognized Bilingual IB Diploma in addition to the high school diploma issued by the Turkish Ministry of National Education. The IB diploma can offer direct transfer to a university abroad without any additional exams. The IB DP programme enables students to achieve their career goals and helps them stand out with their diplomas. Having this diploma can also help students gain scholarships and exemptions from different university courses in their future years of study.
The IB Diploma Programme allows students to choose courses from 6 different subject groups. These subject groups are Studies in Language and Literature, Language Acquisition, Individuals and Societies, Experimental Sciences, Mathematics and Electives, and the Arts. Students can choose one art course from group 6 or a second subject from groups 1 to 5.
In addition to the main courses, they are required to complete the 3 core elements of the programme to learn the basics of the knowledge and correct inquiry methods with the TOK (Theory of Knowledge) course, to reach the level of writing a graduation thesis with EE (Extended Essay), and to undertake projects that often involve community service with CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service).
